Runner’s World Half and Festival Blogger!

Whether you are a runner, a wanna-be runner or have a runner in your life… I assume you’ve heard of Runner’s World. It’s a great running magazine that always includes articles and information for everyone… from the new runner who proudly shows her new shoes to everyone she meets to the veteran runner who has worn out hundreds of pairs of shoes.

The good folks at Runner’s World have written, talked and debated about running for years. They’ve done research and preformed tests. Their training programs have helped countless individuals accomplish goals they never thought they could. They’ve helped at and given their expertise to numerous other races around the country and around the world.

Now they’ve decided to take it to the street. Their own street!
By hosting their first weekend of running and festivities
in their own backyard in Bethlehem, PA.
.

The festivities include everything from an expo to music to running films to speakers to seminars to meet-the-editors sessions… and of course, running! On Saturday there will be a kids runs, a 5k and a 10k. On Sunday there will be a half-marathon.

.

I’m thrilled to have been contacted by Runner’s World
to be one of their bloggers for the weekend!

.

Not only will I be blogging about my training and the event, I’m making plans to host a meetup sometime during the weekend (details tba) and I will offer encouragement and motivation for everyone, especially those who want to do the run/walk/run method I do.

.
I’ll be running the half on Sunday and would love to have YOU join me.

If you’re a regular reader, you know I don’t like winters in PA, but fall can be beautiful. Summer’s humidity is gone and the temps are still reasonable. In other words, it’s perfect running weather. The changing leaves are colorful and there are pumpkins everywhere. And they say this arch will be on fire on race day. Huh?  What’s not to love!

Check out this page for more great pictures of the race and festival area.

So what’s your excuse? A race organized by Runner’s World, perfect weather and a kick in the butt encouragement from me.

So pull out your running shoes (new or old) and make plans…
because you can!

Could you tell me how hilly the course is?

    • http://www.JanetOberholtzer.com Janet Oberholtzer

The half has some hills, but it’s mostly downhill after mile 7… here’s the course info page: http://www.runnersworld.com/rwhalf/course.html

Hey, congratulations!  I’m not a runner (although was in high school), but I do appreciate the training aspects of the sport!   BTW, for some reason my messenger won’t allow me to scan up to the link you posted for your TV interview.   If you’d send it again that’d be great!   That said, I’m not sure if my messaging on FB is messed up, but I sent a really rambling message on FB with thoughts from reading your book.  (Let me know if you didn’t get it)   I’ve really enjoyed reading it!   I have a cop-friend who was in a hit-and-run accident on Christmas (we have the same orthopod and been sharing our recovering woes) and I’m gonna lend him the book too.

      Thanks Chris,
Yes, I got your message… and I’ll resend the link when I reply to that.
Also thanks for sharing my book.

Already registered. It will be my first half, although I’ve done a few 5ks. Looking forward to running through the campus of my alma mater, Moravian. Now I just need to get past this bump in the road – shin splints have had me in PT and not running for almost a month now. I have downloaded the RW half training plan. I want to get to training! Just found you on Twitter, Janet, and I’m getting your book on my iPad. Should provide much needed perspective and motivation.

      Hi Mae Lynn,
Hope your shin splints heal soon, until then just do some walking and yoga or other stretching that way your body will be ready to start running.
Also when I was in the hospital after I was injured, the hospital dietitian kept telling me how I eat will determine how I heal and I’ve never forgotten that. I don’t eat a perfect diet, but I do try to eat lots of veges and fruit and know that helps me run well.
      I wish you the best!
