An Annotated Wish List For Changes by God

Two years after the earthquake in Haiti on January 10, 2010, when at least 230,000 lost their lives, many Haitians lives are still disrupted from the devastation. An article in the Boston Globe today says half a million Haitians are still in camps.

Reading about the ongoing issues in Haiti frustrates me. It’s not like I expected total recovery to have happened… that’s impossible, but it makes me wonder how long and how much the people of Haiti have to suffer.

The video trailer for After Shock asks similar questions…

If you have similar thoughts/questions, I think you’ll find reading
After Shock comforting because you’ll realize you aren’t alone.

As I wrote in my Review of After Shock, I struggle with the non-visibility of God and/or his love during disasters. Yes, there’s stories about individuals who were rescued days after the earthquake, but I wonder if God performed those miracles, then why didn’t he protect the thousands who died… and are dying today in other  disasters around the world?

Check back on Tuesday when I will post my complete interview with Kent, including his answer to that question.

Kent Annan is author of After Shock (2011) and of Following Jesus through the Eye of the Needle (2009) and co-director of Haiti Partners, a nonprofit focused on education in Haiti. He’s a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary. He is married to Shelly, and they have a young daughter (2005) and son (2009).

Get a copy of After Shock here and find out more about Kent and his work with Haiti Partners at his website.

It’s not going to instantly give 500,000 people a house, but buying Kent’s books does help the people of Haiti because…

100% of Kent’s proceeds from both his books
goes to Haiti Partners’ work.

In the video (and the book), Kent has a wishlist about God and life.

I’ll go first with my wish …
If disasters can’t be avoided, I wish all humans would be miraculously lifted into the sky until the diaster was over. Though rebuilding houses and other buildings is challenging, it can be done… but lives that are lost do not come back.

Also, I wish Jesus could be our next president… but that’s another story.
