Two Interviews for Because I Can

While I know there are many negative things on the internet, I love the internet and the connections it allows me to make. And I’m constantly amazed how kind people are in the blogosphere. Today I’m honored to have interviews on two blogs.

One blogger, Shirley Showalter, lives in Brooklyn, NY. I only recently met her online. Shirley’s blog describes her as “Farmer’s daughter turned college professor, then college president, later foundation executive.  She has published articles in USA Today, The Washington Post, The Chronicle of  Higher Education, Christian Century and many others.”

It goes without saying, I would probably not have met Shirley without the internet.

100 Memoirs - Because 99 just isn't enough.

Shirley has a blog called 100 Memoirs and today she posted an Q & A we did via email:

Janet Oberholtzer: Because I Can

Shirley asked great questions ranging from my Mennonite background to my writing/publishing journey. Go over there to read my answers, then read some of her other interviews, including good news about a publishing contract she recently received.

The other blogger is a local friend, Shawn Smucker. I met Shawn online a year or two ago and recently met in person a few times. Without the connection online, I could have lived twenty miles from Shawn the rest of my life, but never met.

And Shawn also posted our interview today:

Six Questions With Author Janet Oberholtzer.

Shawn asks me great questions including what I hope to say through my book to people who have a poor self-image. Click over there to read my answers and then explore Shawn’s site. I love that Shawn took a bold step and began pursuing his dream of writing full-time two years ago. Read about that here.

Here’s a few of his posts that range from serious to funny to his latest projects:
A Knee-Jerk Reaction to Joe Paterno, Penn State, and Protecting Children
The Debt Ceiling According to Dr. Seuss
These Are My Projects – What Are You Up To?

Would you leave a link to your blog and/or a blog you like in the comments?

I’m a pretty massive fan of the internets myself and have been really blessed by my blogging journey. Today is actually the date that I pushed publish on my first blog post six years ago. It’s not at the blog where I write now, but I’m thankful for all of the relationships that I’ve made along the way. It’s a treat!

I agree with Shawn! It’s been a pleasure to work with you and to feel the tendrils and time and place connecting us, whether the same or different. As you put it, the internet makes all this possible!
