Eat. Run. Eat. Work. Eat. Read.

Time has a way of moving on, especially when I’m eating busy. I don’t forget about the blog … I just don’t get anything written. Over the past week, I ate. I worked, I played, I ate, I ran, I read, I ate and I connected with old and new friends. I was full, happy, disturbed, excited, surprised and totally exhausted. (I slept for almost ten hours last night)

Good food was a big part of my past week. I had lunch at two different cafes, Cafe 110 and The Tomato Pie Cafe. Both have delicious food and each time I met a friend that I haven’t connected with for awhile. Love times like that!

One evening Jerry and I went out to dinner with friends and I had delicious soba noodles with vegetables and tofu. Another evening I attended a new bookclub (We discussed Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer. Wow, what that book exposes ticks me off, but that’s another blog post.) We met at an italian restaurant and of course, there was good food … grilled vegetables over a salad and bruschetta.

Yea, I have a tough life …

Another evening I ate at a new friend’s house. This generous, fun-loving Italian woman has the perfect kitchen for entertaining, complete with a brick oven where we baked our own pizzas. She had made good, authentic pizza dough, then we rolled it out and added our choice of toppings. Pizza was just the beginning of her spread … we had homemade noodles, eggplant salad, quiche and more. Her huge marble counter covered with food would have been a beautiful picture, but I was too busy eating to think about my camera, so you’ll have to imagine it.

On Saturday, by chance, I happened upon a Veggie Fest and spent the next hour in veggie heaven! All kinds of vegetarian or vegan salads, dips, dishes and drinks. Everything I tried from the spinach pie to the beet and peach salad to the cucumber mojito was delicious!

Thankfully I had a way to work off all that great food … by running a half-marathon on Sunday.

I was thrilled to see that finish line! Thanks for taking pictures, Debra!

 .

I did the Lehigh Valley Health Network Half-Marathon  It was the second of three half-marathons I planned for this year. I did the Garden Spot Village Half in April and will do the Philadelphia Half on November 20th.

The first half of Sunday’s race was perfect … nice, flat gravel trail along the river. I felt good and was loving it. So I made a normal race mistake … I ran too fast for the first few miles and my legs complained viciously towards the end of the race from my early bursts of energy.

Plus thanks to all the rain our area had recently, around mile 8 (I think) the race left the trail and finished on the road. This meant asphalt or worse yet, concrete, and hills. I was tired. My thighs hurt. I got a blister on one foot. I was wondering why in the world I was doing it. I finished exhausted … but 10 minutes later, I was happy that I did it!

.

And over the past week, between eating, I actually worked some. I did various things surrounding the release of Because I Can … it is now available on Kindle and Nook! I’ve booked some speaking gigs … a retreat, a writer’s group and a fitness expo, the PhillyFIT Bash. I also have a few book signings/events in the pipeline  (Locals, I’ll be at Cafe 110 in Morgantown on Oct 22nd - will post details soon)

That was my week … thanks to everyone that made it a great week, especially those that made sure I was well-fed :) Dina, Marisa, Sharon, Kim, Mark, Janelle, Terry, The Second Sunday Book Club and more!

Great- now I’m hungry.  Sounds like a delicious week!  This reminds me that we haven’t run together in a long while, so I’ve not heard from you- during walk breaks- what you’ve been up to.  I miss our visits!
