One Long Race or Many Short Races

Scenery for today

“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another.” – Walter Elliot

Today a friend and I are running a 10-mile race … Marsh Creek Raptor Run. The above saying will be my mantra. I can easily run 1 mile … so I’m running 1 mile 10 times.

Happy Sunday to you!

I saw you at the Marsh Creek Race this morning, and then ran right behind you for awhile until you left me in the dust.   Of course I read the website on the back of your skirt – how could I miss it. :)
I can only say that I admire your courage and will. you are truly an inspiration to us runners, especially the old ladies like me.  Should I see you at another race, I will come and shake your hand.
I am in the Navy and work in Washington DC.  I often see our injured soldiers who have returned from Iraq or Afghanistan.  Have you ever considered contacting Walter Reed Hospital – I can’t imagine that you wouldn’t be a huge inspiration to those who have lost a leg.  It would be terrific for you to share you story with them.

      Hi Karen,
Glad you stopped in and said hi. I enjoyed the race today … even with all the rocks and limbs. I fell once, but thankfully only got scraps and bruises on my hands and one arm.

Someone else mentioned Walter Reed … I’d be happy to do that … do you have any connections there and/or know who I should connect with?

        Janet,
I too, enjoyed the race.  It was my first trail race in a while so I found it challenging……..and it made me miss my horse as I’ve ridden in that park many times.
Regarding Walter Reed (which is now part of Bethesda Naval Hospital), I need to find out who you can contact.   Let me check and get back to you.  I’m sure you know this, but just wanted to let you know that there a fair number of injured women as well as men.  I’ll write back soon.
