Caring Enough … to Care.

A post for Trust 30 … a 30-day writing challenge I’m participating in.
.

Today’s Prompt:

I will not hide my tastes or aversions. I will so trust that what is deep is holy, if we follow the truth, it will bring us out safe at last.Ralph Waldo Emerson

Think of a time when you didn’t think you were capable of doing something, but then surprised yourself. How will you surprise yourself this week? (Ashley Ambirge)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Response:
This week I hope to surprise myself by being the person I know I am capable of being.
I want to look deep within and trust what I find.
I’ll try to take the high road, even if the immature part of me is headed for the low blow.
I want to go the extra mile … even when I don’t want to.
I aim to take care of issues I usually push off.
I hope to remember what’s worth a fight and what isn’t.
I want to care enough … to care.
I want to remember that each person is valued simply for being.
I want to give as much kindness, love and grace as I can.
The surprise will happen if I do this both for others … and for myself.
    I’m kind of in the middle of surprising myself. I’m doing a fundraiser right now (not going to highjack your thread though – promise) and I hate asking people for money. But I believe in what I’m doing so it’s been fun to see people’s responses. Hope your week goes great!
      I’m with you … I also don’t like asking people for money … but it’s much easier if you believe in it, so you have that going for you. Hope it goes well!
    I will surprise myself by following through with my fitness plan, since this isn’t the first time I’ve decided to make a fitness plan.
    I will surprise myself by memorizing the hits for the Cha Cha Slide even though I hate that song more than anything else in the world right now.
    I will surprise myself by being more present with my 9 year old when she wants my attention.
      Great surprises to focus on!
      And so balanced … a goal for yourself, one for your child and one for others.
    Oh, Janet. “The surprise will happen if I do this both for others … and for myself.”
    This brought tears to my eyes. Lovely. I hope to be able to do the same.
    xoxo, Michi
      Isn’t it interesting (and sad) how often we forget ourselves?
