Five Years Before and After

A post for Trust 30 … a 30-day writing challenge I’m participating in.

Today’s Prompt:

There will be an agreement in whatever variety of actions, so they be each honest and natural in their hour. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

What would you say to the person you were five years ago? What will you say to the person you’ll be in five years?

My Response:

What would I say to the person I was five years ago: You’ve come a long way … some of it was easier than you thought and some of it was harder than you ever dreamed it would be … but you persevered. Good for you!

What will I say to the person I’ll be in five years: I glad to see you’ve continued to live the journey well … even when there were obstacles in the way, you continued one step at a time … (think the power of positive thinking will work?)

What about you … ever thought of writing your past or future self a letter?

Short and specific, just the way that your Self appreciates! Way to keep on “keepin’ on!”

I’ve done both. The letter I wrote to my past self is here: http://www.kclanderson.com/a-letter-to-my-teen-self

      Karen,
Your letter is beautiful – love it! You have me thinking about writing a longer letter to myself as a teen. Thanks for sharing that.

Not before now but it seems like a good idea.

Melinda, I hope you act on the idea … it is a good thing to think and reflect on. Read Karen’s beautiful letter for some creative inspiration … http://www.kclanderson.com/a-letter-to-my-teen-self
