Spiritual and/or Human Journey

I’ve heard and said this saying by Stephen Covey a number of times in my life. “We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human journey.”

I usually took the saying to mean that the spiritual component of ourselves is the one that has true value. Being human is just something we do for a time, but most of our time and energy should be spent focusing on our spiritual journey.

This time when I read it … it made me pause.

Yes, our spiritual journey is important, but can our spiritual journey and our human journey be divided? Or are they intertwined, so to do well in either one, we have to give equal focus to both?

What is means is don’t believe what your pastor or priest tells you.  You are a spiritual being you just don’t remember it yet.
