Sunday Saying – Why? Why Not?

“Some see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask why not.” ~ George Bernard Shaw

Since why and why not are my words this years, I love this challenge … what are you asking why or why not about these days?

.

You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions. ~ Naguib Mahfouz

Hmm question to myself … as I interact with others, am I more concerned with asking questions so I can learn from them or am I more concerned about telling them what I know?

He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever. ~ Chinese Proverb

So ask why or why not the next time it pops into your mind. Go ahead, ask it … you know you’ve been dying to.

Why do we need to label things (music, film etc) as “Christian”?

      Great question!
Because it makes some feel safe and good …

And now for the non-sarcastic answer … I assume when it started the intention/motive was probably good, they wanted to set their products apart to make it easier for the consumer to know. And maybe it was a misguided attempt at “honoring God in all you do” … rather than allowing the creativity put into the work to do that.

For a time, I fell into that trap myself … with a traditional Mennonite background and a mostly Evangelical teachings for 20+ yrs, when I began speaking and writing … I labeled myself a Christian Women’s speaker/writer. After doing that for a little I asked why? Recently when speaking, I mentioned that I’ve dropped the “Christian” and “Women” label — I am a speaker and I am a writer. My story gives hope and inspiration to all faiths, genders, etc. so why should I limit the reach of it?

      Thanks for stopping by!
