2010 Recap of January to June Posts

It’s the time of year when I get reflective … looking back through my posts, I decided to select a few as a recap of 2010.

January

2010 started a new decade … and there were many recaps of world events from the previous decade, so my first post was a recap of my decade from 2000 to 2010.

On January 16th, my middle son was injured while snowboarding. Here’s a recap of his injury/surgery. (my highest blog traffic to date has been the posts during his hospital stay – I told him he didn’t need to get hurt to get blog readers for me)
.

February

From Stubborn to Flexible ... my stubborn foot taught me that anything stubborn can become flexible again if I am aware of it and willing to put the blood, sweat and tears into making change happen.

The Record Player … describes the first day I (kinda) met God.

March

In March I reviewed and gave away a copy of one of the best books I’ve read this year … Born to Run. Whether you are a runner or not, this book is inspiring about what our bodies are capable of … read my review and see a clip of the author speaking here.

April

My favorite April post is without a doubt, the one about running in a marathon relay at the Garden Spot Village Marathon. Taking part in this marathon relay my first post-accident race … in 2009 I did 4.6 miles. 2010 I did 6 miles and now I’m registered for the half-marathon (13.1) for 2011. Step by step, I’m moving forward.

May

In May I had a great experience at the Book Expo in NYC with a friend.
.

June

Memoirs I’ve Read - after reading somewhere that if you are writing a memoir you should have read at least 20 memoirs, I made a list of all the memoirs I can remember reading.
.

Your turn … list a favorite post or two that you’ve written (yes, you can list your own!) or read from the past year. I’d love to read them.

Ah, this is perfect! Since the mutual Twitter-follow, I’ve been looking for ways to catch up on your blog. Pretty easy when you list out some favorites. I’ll look forward to going through these for the next couple of days.

For my part, I would think the two that stand out the most are as follows.

The first is a post I wrote in August about my mother’s struggle with an incurable disease that still factors a great deal in our lives as a family. It’s a response to a lot of postmodern culture that I was encountering that encouraged doubt as a necessary part of Faith. They were rather upset that I didn’t doubt, even went as far to accuse me of not really having Faith because of my blissful (so it seemed) acceptance of “all that’s wrong” in the world. I wrote this as a kind of cathartic explanation. Aptly titled, “things we learned in the fire,” http://seeprestonblog.com/2010/08/things-we’ve-learned-in-the-fire/

The second is more recent and also quite personal, about learning to be in relational prayer with Him again, not simply letting the liturgy carry me. Not perhaps my best post, but the one that was absolutely necessary to own up to. http://seeprestonblog.com/2010/12/parking-jesus/

Thanks for opening up this chance to dialogue and share!
